MXM UPDATE: Kendrick Lamar’s “To Pimp A Butterfly” Goes Gold
Kendrick Lamar’s “To Pimp A Butterfly” surpasses
500,000 copies sold.
2015’s looking better for big sellers in the record
industry than its predecessor. At this point last year,
only three albums had gone gold (one of them being
Beyoncé), but with Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A
Butterfly just now surpassing the 500,000-copies-sold
benchmark, we’ve already got seven this year.
Moving 513,000 units, Lamar joins Drake, Sam Smith,
Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, Meghan Trainor and “Fifty
Shades Of Grey” in the 2015 500,000 club, making this
year the fastest we’ve gotten to seven gold-sellers
since 2010 (which had eight as of April 11th). Things
are, if ever so slightly, looking up for the record
industry this year.
